Environmental Initiatives
75% of Ithaca's housing market is comprised of rental properties; therefore, the single greatest potential impact on sustainability is in the hands of the landlords. As a company we have the ability to make decisions for over 50 homes in Ithaca when a furnace breaks down, or a light bulb goes out, or when windows need to be replaced. PPM Homes takes this responsibility seriously and we can be sustainable, leaving a smaller footprint in the community.
Our vision is to make a difference in the neighborhood through community action and sustainability initiatives.
Here are concrete examples of sustainable systems and materials implemented in our properties:
- Efficiency compact fluorescent light bulbs
- High efficiency heating systems
- New energy efficient windows
- Photo Voltaic (Solar) Panels
- Architectural salvage & reuse
- Materials Recycling
- Household compost areas
- Free bus passes
- Information for tenants about utilities and usage
PPM is the recipient of two 2012 Signs of Sustainabilty awards from Sustainable Tompkins! PPM Homes recieved a Signs of Sustainabilty award from Sustainable Tomkins for our work in developing the first Car Free rental housing in Ithaca. At a downtown location, PPM provides bus passes and bike storage to tenants instead of on site parking spaces.
